Default M1 Max / Ultra Studio offline bounce speeds?

Hi folks, just wondering how these new macs fair when it comes to offline bouncing to disk compared to an older Mac Pro 5,1. Is there a substantial decrease in bounce time? Has anyone done a comparison bouncing the same mix on two Macs like a 5,1 and a Max Studio? For me this is what would make the purchase of a new Mac Studio worthwhile. i know it still runs in Rosetta so that is a factor and also the plugins are being used, but I would guess it should be a good amount faster doing offline bounces than older Mac Pros. When I do bounces on my Mac Pro 12 core 5,1 it is not even hitting 15 percent on iStat which kinda stinks not sure why it is not taking more advantage of the cores unless its really just a single core process.

Yes bounce times should be way lower.

I did a bounce of the same session (tv mix) with a 12Core 64GB RAM MacPro 6,1 (Trashcan) and a MBP 14" M1 Pro with 16GB RAM and the Macbook was nearly twice as fast with 4.1x realtime compared to the 2.1-2.3 of the trashcan.

But also my intel mac mini (2018 6 core i5) was already faster with about 3.2x times realtime.

Your 5,1 seems to clock higher than the 12core trashcan, but is an older architecture... so I guess they are in a similar ballpark.

The offline bounces on my M1 Max Studio are SLOWER than on my 2018 Intel Mac Mini (about .5-.8x across the board).

It could be a plugin that is using Rosetta 2 slowing it down. Most are saying the M1 is much faster even with Rosetta.

The M1 is the only choice going forward, so it might be worth exploring what is causing it to slow down.

Or there is PC and Windows.

Oh, no doubt its Rosetta slowing it down, I'm using Slate, Kush, etc. who have not released M1 versions of their plugins, so I know what I'm in for. (My setup is chronicled in the Mac Studio thread)

Just thought it was an interesting observation at this point in time. We'll get there.

I would say it is Slate. The Mac Studio thread is 56 pages long.

It will take time to get there. I don't think Slate quiet has the programming team as someone like Waves.
I'm guessing he will either release them in phases or will only release as a whole set.

With now having to support Windows (multiple versions), Mac Intel/M1 it is going to be a struggle on the early adopters.

I decided to start down the M1 road knowing it would have some growing pains, but would rather be in the thick of it then waiting for everything to turnover to M1.

Keep up to date on more findings.

Thanks for the info. I know that using some plugins like DMGs Limitless on my system really slows down the bounce time. I am going to wait and see what the new Mac Pro has in store before I make a move to Apple silicon.
