Default Melodyne & Pro Tools 12.4

So, I've been picking my brain over an issue I've been having with Pro Tools 12.4 for the past few weeks. Before 12.4 my system was fairly stable, but since I've been crashing 2-3 a day. Sometimes back to back. I did all the troubleshooting.
  • trashed preferences
  • checked for updates
  • tried a different user
  • did a clean install of Pro Tools 12.4 from new download
  • and finally a complete system wipe and reinstall
None of the aforementioned options did the trick. What made it more frustrating was the fact that I couldn't recreate the crash. Couldn't make it happen. But, after I completed the clean install and was testing I started noticing a trend, and was then able to recreate the crash at will.

If I instantiated Melodyne on a track (let's say on insert A), waited for it to load, and then immediately selected a different plugin for the same insert, melodyne would close followed by a PT crash a few seconds later. An interesting part was that if I closed melodyne and waited a few seconds to add another plugin, PT would not crash immediately. I would however see a crash in the next 5-10 minutes. Now, I know that's not proof of Melodyne being the issue, or even being directly related. But what I've been doing since I discovered this, is anytime I finish using Melodyne and print the results. I immediately save a close PT. Since I've been doing this, I haven't had a single PT crash.

So, after all that, I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing a phenomenon like this.

Melodyne version: 2.1.2 (tried installing the Melodyne 4 demo with same results)

I just checked with PT12.4 and Melodyne 4.0.2 on Mac and it does still crash Pro Tools.

Do you authorize Melodyne via serial number or iLok?

What version of OS X, Pro Tools, and Melodyne are you running? And, if you have a moment could you watch this video and try to replicate it?

I have had this happen with some other plugins. I basically un-instantiate the plugin in the track and then do it from the insert location rather than the menu within the plugin. Seems to work fine for me that way. G

Yeah, I do this too. But I've noticed that in sessions where I've opened and closed Melodyne, within 10-15 minutes I get a crash versus other sessions where I don't.
