Default Pro Tools 11.1.2 lags out on EVERY command

I'm so sorry I forgot to post Sandra report before Moderator posted my original thread. My fault!

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 after buying 2 Samsung EVO Pro SSD's. I installed 11.1.2 PT and every time I click on ANYTHING it takes like 2 to 3 minutes for PT to respond. I use a 256GB SSD for primary drive and a 128GB SSD for Pro Tools sessions.

I click on Setup, it lags for 2 to 3 minutes, I click on Audiosuite, it lags 2 to 3 minutes, I click on Save or EXIT or ANYTHING and it freezes for 2 to 3 minutes.

I deleted PREFS and did suggested Windows optimizations and deleted all registry instances of Avid as well as Appdata....
Reinstalled PT 11.1.2 3 times... same result. It takes forever to do ANYTHING.

I do have an AMD video card installed.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this will help, it doesn't sound exactly like it is the same issue.
But it is worth a try:

Default Re: Pro Tools 11.1.2 lags out on EVERY command

I hope I am wrong, but a few details concern me.
#1-the Passport drive is 5400 rpm and too slow for any Pro Tools use
#2-the WD MyBook may also be a slow drive(or a "green" drive)
disconnect these drives and retest

#3-AMD. While AMD rocked our world back in the LE days, they have fallen behind some and I worry that AMD may just be a bad choice for Pro Tools these days. You should also review all the system tweaks to make sure you covered those

Default Re: Pro Tools 11.1.2 lags out on EVERY command

Thanks for the responses.
I use my primary SSD drive for Pro Tools program and plugins, I save sessions to the 2nd SSD.
I don't use the USB External drives for pro tools at all. They are just connected to the pc and contain hundreds of movies AND ITunes library.
Should I not have them connected while using Pro Tools?

I have done the windows optimizations and disabled the floppy drive in BIOS even though I don't have one!

I question the use of the AMD VIDEO CARD. I have no interest in video via Pro Tools, just music, but I read that only nVidia video is supported. The AMD CPU runs fine.

I own a MacBook Air, 2013, non retina, 128GB SSD, and I wonder if I should just forget windows. With only one SSD drive in the Mac, what should be used for a second hard drive? I have a USB 3 external drive I could use with the Mac but I've read that it's a bad idea.

Default Re: Pro Tools 11.1.2 lags out on EVERY command

Ok, I disconnected all external USB drives. I had already disabled floppy in BIOS.

I can start PT 11 and add a click track, then add an instrument track, I usually put Xpand2 in first and play around with an instrument.

What happens now is I can play around with the midi controller and then periodically PT stops responding. I can keep on playing the instrument that's currently selected but PT is frozen up. The audio meters onscreen are in a 'frozen' position and no longer register the output from the keyboard.

Ctrl-Alt-Del into Task Manager and PT shows as NOT RESPONDING. It never recovers and I have to power off with the power button on the pc case.

Until I am ready to record actual audio I've been using the Creative ASIO for midi stuff. I don't hook up the Mbox until I'm ready for guitars.

Any ideas?

Default Re: Pro Tools 11.1.2 lags out on EVERY command

I may have found the problem.

I had my Axiom 61 (old, NOT the Oxygen model) plugged into a front panel USB port. I switched it to a port on the back of the motherboard and have been playing with Pro Tools for over an hour with no lag/crashing.

Nobody ever told me to use 'mobo' ports for connections. Perhaps this is my solution.

Thanks to those who did try I appreciate your efforts. Nothing is worse than a great software that's not working for you.

Fingers crossed that you solved it. Anything that uses bus power via USB is a possible culprit and troubleshooting can be a frustrating thing(and you didn't mention that hardware at the top). As for me, certain commands take a while in 11, but are instant in 10.3.8. The worst offenders are changing playback buffer, and setting clock source(I run an external word clock master).

USB ports on your case are connected to the motherboard's USB headers. They shouldn't cause an issue. In this case it appears they have, but they shouldn't.

Maybe check the connections inside the case, make sure things are seated to the USB headers. Looks like your board has two, labeled F_USB1 and F_USB2. I don't know if this means USB 1.1 and USB 2.0, or whether it just means USB 2.0 header 1 and USB 2.0 header 2. It seems to indicate that both are indeed USB 2.0, but I didn't bother cracking open the manual.
