What is the difference between Destructive punch Rec and Destructive Record in Protools HD?

In DP mode, pro tools make a blank audio file and p,inches into that file. When pro tools does this, it crossfades 10ms on the in and out of every punch so their is no pop, unless you're punching something really different in.

In DR mode, PT is just amending the audio file distructively. No cross fades on the punch and you don't need a blank audio file. Pops are very likely and all punches should be qc'ed

also DR will record until the drive is full,
DP you set a maximum time length (very useful for Post Production) in minuets
my one gripe with DP is it can only start at the beginning of the session

The differences have been pretty much explained though I recon theres no point in using either unless you want to pretend to use a tape machine.

DP mode is great for things like punching in a fix on a final mix, your left with one file/no need to consolidate

that's how we use it in Post but just a useful on a music mix
