Default Audiovision \"DISK MAGIC\"

It is about this error message:Assertion failed: file && (*file) magic = = DISK.MAGIC
FILE: DISK_mac.c,line: 1491

When the edit is complete,we do use the consolidate feature to make a copy of the sequences ,to go to a dubbing theatre for mixing.I know I have been told that this function is not supported in AV4.1v8,because it has now the "Backup Project" command. But of course we don't need backup, but consolidate for obvious reason. We do the consolidate on removable Rorke Data drives,in order to playback in Tascam MMR16 dubbers, and exporting the sequence has a PT 3 or 4 session, and it works fine, when we don't have this error message during consolidate.
But we quite often have this problem, and we did many test to try to find out what was causing the problem, and unfortunately, when we do test,of course it does'not happen.
Do you have an idea,or is this a known bug?

Also when it does happen it also does it with the "backup Project" command.

This is a very practical thing for us to do,so is there a solution,or a fix with AV 4.1v9?

Thank you

First of all, the reason the consolidate function is not easily accessible is because it is not totally reliable. I realize it is a convenient function but in regards to PCI AudioVision you use it at your own risk.

There are a couple of things that can cause the "Disk_Magic" error message.

1) This can happen in versions prior to AV 4.1 when multiple bins have names that start witht the same 23 characters.

The Workarounds for this are to upgrade to the latest version of AV which is currently 4.1v8.

or

change the names of the bins, so that the first 23 characters are not the same.

If you already have version 4.1v8 of AV on your system right now you should remove all other older AV versions from your system so that one of these older versions aren't launched accidentally by an alias or whatever.

2) This can also happen if the verification of the file handles is incorrect.

To get around this, try trashing the media files database located in the media files folder on each media drive. These files will be rebuilt when you go back into AV.

Thanks,

Jon Connolly

Thank's Jon for the info.Yes we are running 4.1v8,and no there is no old versions on the machine.Beside, has I point out in my first mail to you, when the problem happen it also happen with the Backup project command.Although I did try what you said and it does not solve the problem. It is always happening when it start recreating audio fades.
Also to trash the Media Files Data Base is a long operation, when the folders contain a lot of Media files and Fade files,so lets say it takes a while to completely open the folder and see all the files in it.
So just to say that we did consolidate another project today, and everything whent fine again,so what is causing this problem, and how can we avoid it,even if we were to use Backup Project instead?
Will the consolidate command be officially supported in another version, because the other day we did output another project with and old Nubus version 3.6 machine, and everything went fine also?

Thank's Claude
