Default Protools Vanilla to Pro Tools Studio!

I just got this email:

We are excited to announce that we have updated and enhanced the Pro Tools product line into three new offerings: Pro Tools Artist for music creators just starting out, Pro Tools Studio for serious music creators and producers, and Pro Tools Flex for audio post and high-end music facilities.

As a current Pro Tools (standard) customer, your license automatically entitles you to the new Pro Tools Studio product free of charge, which offers numerous enhancements and additional content, including:
Double the previous audio track count (increasing from 256 to 512)
Surround and Dolby Atmos® mixing (previously only in Pro Tools Ultimate)
Advanced automation and Clip Effects editing (previously only with Pro Tools Ultimate)
New Pro Tools | GrooveCell and Pro Tools | SynthCell virtual instruments
And more
To download Pro Tools Studio and your new content, just log in to your Avid Account and find the installer links. To learn more about the new Pro Tools products and features, check out the in-depth blog and join us for a livestream on Thursday, May 5th at 1:00 pm ET that will cover all the latest enhancements.

So I just installed Protools 2022.4 and the splash screen says Pro Tools Studio. I was looking for a separate installer for Pro Tools Studio, thinking it was different from Protools 2022.4, but it looks like they are the same thing. What to Pro Tools Ultimate user get, Pro Tools Flex?

I need to see a detailed breakdown of the differences between Studio and Flex...

I've been on ultimate for a few years, but if I can downgrade to studio and keep all the features I need, that'd be great...

A quick check and previous sessions load and play. Plugins seem to be there and working. More testing will be needed but initial check seem to be fine.

The main sticking point for most Ultimate users will be HDX/Digilink. You'll need Flex/Ultimate for that.

It's all the Field Recorder workflows and more than one video track that makes Ultimate still essential for post work. That's a crippling hike in subs from $399 to $999 to keep those features. Feeling very glad I never took their kind offer to swap my permanent license for subs - AFAIK I can keep going on a "mere" $399 and stay current.

I got the same mail and I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I mean I actually only use ultimate for the 5.1 and the one automation option. (That funny four finger monkey grab - „save to all active automation tracks between locators“) Do I get that for free now? What’s the catch? Can I still import a video file to do sound design for or is that nee only reserved for PT Flex? Or what do they mean when they say Flex is for audio post? I tried to find a list of what the studio and flex versions entail but to no luck.

I'm on and Intel Mac still and am not seeing any instability or slowness. People hate it when this is suggested, but perhaps doing a clean install is called for. That means formatting the SSD/Hard Drive, installing a fresh OS, installing Protools, and installing plugins (testing after each installation). Don't use any migration utilities (data is fine but not applications, plugins, settings, etc.). Chances are that the issues you are experiencing are due to some plugin(s) that needs to be updated for M1 and Rosetta2 usage. Time will tell.

I am running it on an M1 Pro MBP 16" with 32 GB of ram. At first glance for me, it is running smoother than the previous version on all three largish mixes I have tried. 50 something tracks... hundred plugs on one of the sessions. 33% system usage.
