Sounds great.
Catchy little, big sounding number.

Ok, so what did you use? Mics, pres, etc.

I think that's a great sounding recording. nice vocals, always present, yet the guitars are never far away and sound loud...good and loud!

Very cool song!
I agree with the suggestions above that said to spread that chorus out...doubled and hard-panned to start and then a nice room reverb that is close or similar to the drum reverb...thus creating the illusion that the performance of the chorus vocal is in the same size room as the band...
In my opinion, falsetto vocals on the chorus can "weaken" an otherwise strong song. By giving the chorus an enhanced, "wider" effect, you can overcome that and create a new dimension for the chorus.
I really like that song. Nice job!

Thank you a again! Excellent feedback!
Here is another mix using some of the techniques you suggested.
http://www.barelypink.com/promo/strongesto ne_new.mp3
We are gonna work on it more tomorrow.
All the mixing is being done with ProTools LE on my G4 400 mhz machine. Channel Strip Audio Suite plugin was used on all the drums.
The drums were recorded with a Mackie 1604VLZ board, a pair of AudioTechnica4033's for overheads, a 57 on the rack tom, a D112 on the floor tom, a 57 on the snare and a Peavey PL120 on the kick.
The bass is a 72' Pbass into my Focusrite Voicemaster for a preamp and then we used the Channel Strip plugin for compression and EQ. There are about 7 Tracks of guitars record thru a Fender Pro Junior using a Shure 57 mic into the Focusrite. For the vocals I used a CAD Equitek 350 into an ART Pro MPA stereo tube mic pre. For plugins on the vocals we used Channel Strip for compression and EQ (Audio Suite) Then inserted a D-verb and a digidelay for effect. I think that about covers it.

Thanks again for all your input! You've been a big help!
Brian

Be carefule when you ask for advice on the mix for several reasons.

1. No two ears are alike, people actually hear things differently!

2. You mix based on the band and song. You should mix up to your band's strength's and who knows that better than you!

3. Guitarist will want the guitars louder, drummers want the drums louder, etc. Everyone has a bias...ha ha!

I think you did a great job regardless! The mix is great! You will find out, you will never be truely satisfied with a mix...aargg!

what you say is true, but when i finally get something posted for all of you to check out, what i'm really looking for is a heads up on anything i have done (or may have done) really wrong... i'm very new to this so any and all input on what i've done is more then welcome. i think thats really all anyone is looking for here, not for someone to remix it for you, but just some little things that you might want to rethink, after you've listened to the same song over and over and over and over... you start to hear everything thats in it, even if you cant actually hear it. it always helps to get a fresh set of ears on a project, just for a different perspective.

Great song. The falsetto is what I liked best! Dont know whats wrong with that.

Just some thoughts:

How abut dubbing the vox to make it stick out a little less? I think the band could sound louder in comparison to the vox.

Boxy" Guitars? Cut some middle and boost some highs? (very highs?)
A little short reverb where the guitars are "alone"? To put them "in a room".

Cymbals are very low.
More reverb on drums to make them bigger and moved a little to the back?
Everything is a little too much "in your face" for my taste. Too dry.
Cut a little bass on snare?

Are you using very much compression? I almost feel that there is some overall distortion. I suspect an overdriven limiter on the master fader?
I would give up a couple of dbs to get a better sound.

But all in all its not very much different than what I would have ended up with myself if I was mixing it.

Keep on rocking!
