Default 001 MIDi problems with Cubase 5

Got a 001, MIDI port works in Pro Tools, but geting problems when using Digidesign Direct IO driver in Cubase- The 001 Midi port suddenly doesn't work, though if you change the Audio Engine to Sound Manager, it's fine. Seems to be some wierd conflict....

Running Cubase 5.0r2 on G4/400mhz with os9.1, oms 2.3.8 and PT 5.1.1.

Anybody encountered similar problems? Any ideas, anybody!!!!
