Default BLA now modding Focusrite Saffire 40 and 56

Black Lion Audio is now doing mods on the Focusrite Saffire Pro 56 and 40 units. I know a lot of people like these units with Protools so I wanted to point it out.

And it's so cheap, too! At least compared to the old 002/003 upgrades.

I've seen this too, but I'm wondering what happens with the liquid pres. Since they are changing the components the sound itself of the pre's will change, and with that the entire emulations will be thrown off, not very practical I think.

From what I can see, they aren't touching the pres. The mod seems mostly on the clock and AD/DA side, with some power adjustments. It's certainly not as complete a mod as with the 002/003s.

In fact, on the mod page they say nothing at all about the pres, so it's safe to say they left them as they are since it would take the whole point out of buying the LS56.

Even if the pre's are improved, it shouldn't do anything bad. The liquid pre emulations are done via software (or perhaps firmware built in to the unit). The pre's themselves are probably very neutral for this purpose. If the mod's affect them, it would just probably give them more headroom and less noise.

Actually, it's a combination of both. Sharc DSP combined with varying impedances and signal path switching.

I do not want a $1500, $900 interface.

I am looking for the next level upgrade from the unit though. I want to get away from firewire. I hope that the lightpipe will be everything it looks to be. So in 2-4 years? I would use that upgrade cash to invest in a new interface.

Do you mean thunderbolt???? B/C lightpipe has been here since the 20bit ADAT's.....(I still have mine) and it does seem like it will live up to the expectation.....I still would rather have a Firewire than a USB interface......
