Default Niggling things

I'd quite like to do a thread of all the tinniest little things that niggle me on a daily basis.

This is one : why can I enter a value in the subcounter here...

but can't enter a value in the subcounter here...?
http://duc.avid.com/attachment.php?a...1&d=1643978435

It defies logic.

I have loads more of these kinds of things btw.

I don't know, but if you explain what you are trying to do, maybe someone has a suggestion

I don't need any help. I'm just whinging. The two boxes should work the same way and they don't, it's as simple as that really.

If you're looking for Logic, you've come to the wrong place.

I just want Avid to make a convenient way use all its transport and marker features with a laptop keyboard that you can do with a full-size keyboard. I know there are workarounds but they cost time compared to real numpad usage.

I've gotten to the point where every time I come across a bug or weird behavior I start a case. It's the only reliable way to get a bug report or feature request recognized.

First for "smurfyou"-- it is not a "bug" or weird behavior it's the workflow .

For Midnight --Seems fairly logical to me, since being able enter a value/s is function your only going to use in the editing process ,,, and the counter you can enter a value is at the top of the edit page.
I see no logical reason to have that function duplicated on the transport simply adding unneeded extra code to an already complex code YMMV

@midnightrambler
this is not necessarily a solution to your issue, but...

if you have a numeric keypad:
use the "/" key to select start counter (repeat to cycle through start/end/length)
use the "*" key to select main counter

again, not a solution, but a reliable/predictable way to achieve the same goal.

The "/" key doesn't work when you're in the mix window. (It used to before v8)(which incidentally is another thing on my "niggles" list)

Also it's not the main counter I want to edit, it's the subcounter. (If you want the reason, it's because when I'm doing tweaks, I normally get sent a list of mm:ss times referenced to the mix I've sent, rather than bars and beats, which they obviously won't know as they're only listening to the WAV)

Ah yes, I feel your pain! For that reason, I always tell clients to give a reference OTHER THAN time(my sessions always have several blank bars at the top so the time reference never works well). Sometimes I will open the file in WMP(or similar) so I can look for the same time reference as the client, but I also request they refer to a specific lyric or section(like chorus 2, 3rd line...). You can also temporarily change the main counter to time

For this situation it will be better to change the song’s 0:00:00 start time and put a marker there. Then the session time will coincide with your bounces.
