PT 5.1 & 9600/350 & 9500/200
I have a 9600/350 (300+ meg RAM) & a 9500/200 (200 meg RAM), both running OS 8.6 & PT 5.01 flawlessly. Now with the addition of OS 9.04 (or 9.1?) will I have the horsepower to keep up with the heftier operating system as well as PT 5.1? I have heard some concern on other forums about 5.1 w/ 9600's or 9500's. Anyone here have some knowledge about this...??? Digi...???

Re: PT 5.1 & 9600/350 & 9500/200
The 9600 works fine with 9.04 and PT 5.1, even on large sessions running 2 monitors. I'm running a G3/366 processor upgrade though. The biggest downside would be limited use of RTAS plugs. I have no experience with the 9500 though.

Re: PT 5.1 & 9600/350 & 9500/200
People seem to be saying both. Digi says the 9600 is compatible. I have run Mac OS 9.04 on my 9600 with 5.01 for months with no problems. I am assuming 5.1 will be okay too.
E-an, who do you know that is having problems running 5.1 on a 9600? |

Re: PT 5.1 & 9600/350 & 9500/200
Not really read of people having trouble - just lots of murmerings about people wanting to upgrade because of worries over performance. I guess its early days with 5.1 anyway... just wanting to see what people are up 2 as Im trying to figure out where to head with all this before we upgrade
Cheers anyway, E

Eric,
Do the G4, baby! They are snappity-cool-fast. One of our guys here just got a 400mhz G4 for 1200. Yikes! (No model pun intended, it's a sawtooth). Bryan |

Re: PT 5.1 & 9600/350 & 9500/200
I'm told that 9600 will work fine with 5.1 but I have been worned that 5.1 is a DAE hog, espically with the multiple outputs. At some point if you are going to run PT midi you will work your bus system very hard and un upgread on the computer will be necessary, remember the Farm cards do the work not not the computer with the exception of the bus speed. I have a 9600/300 with the Newer g-3 500/250 and it has run fine for 1 year. But as I add midi tracks above 20 tracks I notice a slow moniter re-draw but I have had up to 40 audio and 20 midi tracks running with 2 moniters, 9.04 OS and 510 60 nz Ram, Mix,plus, plus

Re: PT 5.1 & 9600/350 & 9500/200
Thanks for the responses. It looks like no one is even touching the 9500. OK, that one's out. As for the 9600... maybe now IS the time. I just bought a dual 450 for myself and can attest that it truly is "snappity-cool-fast" (thanks for the usual verbal roman-candle Bryan. You're a lexicographical James Bond). Gotta go!

Re: PT 5.1 & 9600/350 & 9500/200
the 9600 will probably work ok with smaller sessions, but what about the bigger sessions with a lot of edits. forget about running anything along with it that uses the host processor, like "Unity"
a faster system bus, multiple processors, a stealth serial port (for midi) and a lot of ram seems the only way to compete. OS x "Lynx" ... etc. have i skipped anything ??? anyone ???
