A Lot has Changed
I have been a user since version 5.0 at the studio I worked at.
Then I had Mbox, upgraded to 002, the HD setup at work. I have been away for a while due to some health-related issues. After a Stem Cell Transplant, I am back and look forward to returning to work. I have a new Mac Book Pro with lots of RAM. I purchased a Focusrite Scarlett 212 at home. Can I use Artist or do I need to get something else? I have access to a studio but this is just for getting songwriting ideas at home Any suggestions are appreciated.

Artist should be fine to start with. You can look at the comparison to see what you'd be missing but for basic songwriting you should be good.
Macbook Pro with lots of RAM is a good start.

Free Pro Tools Intro would work to start for getting song writing ideas down. 8 Tracks Audio and 8 Midi and 8 Instrument should be enough.
