Default Using Protools 8 and Cubase6 together

I have been using Protools on Mac and syncing it to a PC with Cubase and good old Gigastudio. It is Cumbersome but works if you like recording and mixing audio on Protools but like doing midi on Cubase.

I want to drop the PC and use Cubase for midi and Protools for audio on the same computer.
Q: Can I connect these to run together through some kind of Rewire configuration?

Are there any traps with Mbox2 and how I link midi?

Does this cause havoc with CPU?

Note I want to upgrade to the new Macbook Pro but for now I must run the old duocore mac.

Please advise.
