Drive showing up multiple times
Over the past 6 months, I have had this problem about 6 times.
A hard drive will show up multiple times (16 I think) on the desktop. This is with G4/450agp, ATTO UL2D, rev 0144., OS 9.0.4 Drive is in a non-removeable case, Cheetah 9 gig hooked up to one bus of the ATTO card. I took a hunch on a workaround tonight, and it worked - using a single ended terminator instead of an LVD one (the drive and card are LVD). I thought, "SCSI echoes", and took a shot. Anyone else ever have this? If you have, please post configs and experiences.. DC |

Re: Drive showing up multiple times
I had this with a drive a friend brought in. It was only a normal SCSI Drive. He already told me, that somthing was wrong with the drive, because it showed up multiple times. I tried to reformat it , i tried several times , even Low Level, no success. I tried the drive on normal SCSI Card and on the dual ATTO , no difference. I guess it was a problem with the drive itselve.
(Since I was anyway pissed that he bought a "normal" SCSI Drive, which would have been to slow anyway, I told him to give it back and get a UW Disk which worked alright. ) D. |

Re: Drive showing up multiple times
The jumper settings on the drive are incorrect. Double check them. And check the SCSI cable going into the drive for a secure fit.

Re: Drive showing up multiple times
Hi Danny,
I've had this happen a few times. Always when I'm moving drives in & out of enclosures or CPUs. The connectors that attach to an external SCSI ID changer (the little things that you push in to change the ID) can be put on in the wrong order or otherwise connected to the wrong pins. If you use a utility to display all of the available drives and their SCSI IDs, you'll see the drive show up at all of the addresses. I can't remember exactly how I've fixed it, but it was always a "physical" problem rather than software or a failing hard drive. later, j mcd |

Re: Drive showing up multiple times
Ive usually found that 2 Items have the same SCSI address. try to put it alone on a buss and see what address it is.
I agree that the address jumpers or connections are suspect. |

Re: Drive showing up multiple times
Your ATTO scsi ID is typically 7.
Multiple drives show up if you give them the same ID as your controller. Check your ATTO ID #. Check your HD's ID's. Did I mention termination ??? -Hope this helps, Russell, Ozark Pro Audio
