Default "Unable to locate digidesign hardware" windows 7 MBOX3

Ok, so I have An MBOX 3 running on a laptop with windows 7.

It used to work just fine.

But I had to move all the rig, and shut it down, and it started to give me this error. "Unable to locate digidesign hardware". Which I though was weird since I am able to stream audio trough the device.

So here is what I've tried

- Pluggin it into other USB ports
- reinstalling the drivers
- Installing ProTools LE 8.0.4 (it was 8.0.3)
- Uninstalling the drivers, rebooting the PC then connecting the MBOX and installing the drivers.
- I disabled the power management on the USB ports

I haven't tryied Uninstalling ProTools since I don't have the CD with me (it's home and I'm away from home for 3 months) ... but it seems like it's the only solution left.

And there's also something else "weird" ... when I try it into another DAW (let's say cubase) ... it can't use the MBOX Asio driver.

So, I'm clueless about what to do next (beside uninstalling Protools... ).

Thanks for any help.

You can download the full installer from your avid account. Hope you have fast internet though!

Try unplugging everything from the computer's USB ports except the Mbox. Now go into the device manager, see if the Mbox is listed under the Sound tab, and if Digidesign/Avid Firmware updater is present under the USB controllers. If so, right click them all and click uninstall. Should be about 3 of them you have to do. Then unplug the Mbox for a few seconds and plug it back in. It should install the drivers and say successful. Reboot, then see if Pro Tools launches. If not, I would definitely try reinstalling the 8.0.3 full installer, don't plug in the mbox when it asks. Reboot. Run 8.0.4, plug in the Mbox when it asks. Reboot. Run the CS2 update. Reboot. Run the updated drivers that came with CS2. Reboot. Launch Pro Tools. Good luck!

Also, get rid of the mis-match RAM and install 4GB of matching RAM!

thanks, and for the RAM, well, it's a fairly old laptop, I guess I'll buy a newer one instead of changing the RAM :)

eject the mbox, uninstall the drivers, reboot, reinstall the drivers, then plug it in. that usually works for me.

Hey we are new to this too. We are getting the same message after we moved everything to this room. When you say eject the Mbox I have no idea what you mean. We are not real good with computers like I said before this is all new to us.
