no automation witten to VI when using knob on Midi keyboard

Hi there,

Just got myself an M-Audio Axiom49 keyboard which includes a bunch of knobs, faders and pads on it. Sweet.

Loaded up a song in PT with some virtual instruments in there and tried out assigning one of the knobs to a low pass filter dial on one of the VI's. Works sweet.
I then turned on automation for that parameter, set the track to write and then fiddled away. No automation data was written, I just got one dot early on and a straight line. Tried again but just used my mouse to turn the low pass filter dial instead and it wrote the automation fine.

So the knob on my keyboard can control the filter on the VI fine, but no automation data is written when using it.

Would anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

BTW, The VI was a VSTi, I have the FXPansion VST2RTAS wrapper.

Yes.

What you are trying to write is technically MIDI data, not true automation. You will need to record arm the track in MIDI merge mode, and actually record the MIDI information from the controller.

Thanks spkguitar, that was spot on.

Is there a way I can edit the midi data afterwards though? It doesn't appear as an option to view the data like "notes, velocity, pan" etc.
