Transfer PT HD9 licence

I bought a PT 9HD licence quite a number of years ago without any hardware. Seems the seller at the time had more licenses than hardware so sold one, which included a genuine AVID disk with activation code. Obviously such a licence has some value with respect to updating to PTHD11.

I've tried negotiating the tangled web of AVID read me files and FAQ etc and really can't get straight information regarding me now transferring that licence to someone else.

Any help from my learned colleagues? Thanks in advance.

Avid has always had a rule that HD software can only be sold with the HD hardware it originally came with. For many years they did not enforce that rule (you probably bought yours during that time). However, in the last couple of years, they started enforcing it very strictly. Because of that, it may not be possible to sell your HD9 at all, since you don't own the original HD card it came with.

I was under the impression you could sell it with any hardware....

You want to sell it I would go to eBay by a PCI X HD card and try to do the transfer that way.

That way if they don't want you or they don't allow you to do that then you're only out 200 bucks

then just go get an HD 9 to HD 11 upgrade code register it on your Avid Account. Avid will then send the upgrade license to the ilok account.

If you purchased an Activation Code then you must be the registered user under your ilok account.Hi
You must keep your Pro tools ilok license in order to obtain any update or upgrade.
All upgrades and updates are ALWAYS tied to ownership of the ilok licenses and have nothing to do with the Avid Registration. (though moving forward past 2016 this may change)
