Export or bounce adds noise
I'm having the problem of noise/distortion/crackling being added to the track after I do any kind of 'bounce to disk' or export from the bin. There are no plugins or anything. I'm just trying to export files from multi-tracks or even just dual-monos to stereo interleaved AIFFs for CD. I can't do any kind of exporting without adding noise/distortion to the final track. Does anyone know what this is or how to get around it? A fix or download? Upgrade?
Basically, I've got a Pro Tools system that can record and mix, but I can't export files in any format that would be useful. Any help would be appreciated. rheohead System: Mac G4 dual 1.25Ghz (mirror doors), 768 MB RAM, OSX 10.3.9, Pro Tools 6.4 LE, Digi002 Rack |

Re: Export or bounce adds noise
Well since nobody else has taken a stab at it........
Which version of QuickTime are you using? PTLE is not officially supported on 10.3.9, but some users have reported success with it. QuickTime 7, and 10.3.9 is known to be a sometimes problematic combination outside of PTLE. Just a thought....... This is in addition to the normal routine of repairing permissions, re-running the combo updater, etc. that sometimes solves bizarre behavior on Mac OS. With a MDD 1.25 I think I'd consider updating to a newer version of PTLE. 6.9 is the last version for Panther, and is supported for 10.3.8. 6.4 is only officially supported for 10.3.5. That could be the issue. |

Re: Export or bounce adds noise
Thanks very much for your help - M.Brane
I "downgraded" my OS to 10.3.4 (the cheapest option) as well as to Quicktime 6.5.2. Everything seems to work fine now. That must have been the problem. Thanks again. You saved me from many headaches! For those of you reading this for similar problems, here is something I noticed. When Pro Tools was running, I tried to open a file in Quicktime Player. Under the previous OS (10.3.9) all I would get is the 'spinning beachball'. Now that I've downgraded both, I can open Quicktime files with Pro Tools running. It would seem that the two didn't like each other. Hope that helps. |

Re: Export or bounce adds noise
i'm not using quicktime but am having a similar problem, only lately....kind of wierd as i've been using this setup for years (mac g3 ibook os9, ptle 5).
i btd my files as stereo interleaved 16 bit aifs. i then drag them into toast and burn on an OWC cd burner. same process i've been doing for years. only now, the cds tend to have lots of crackling on them. the only major thing that's different is that digi replaced my fw connections recently as they were dead. everything sounds fine "in the box", no overs (usually about 8-6 db under at peak), but intense crackling on my cds. i suppose this could be a cd burner problem -- could it be a bad fw cable or something simple (he hopes! . if not using quicktime, what might this crackling sound indicate? thx, steve |
