Default Digi CoreAudio Manager and Safari

System: OSX 10.3.9, G4 dual 1.25 ghz, running PT6.9 on a 002 Rack.

I've been using my 002 as my sound output with no problems for about 18 months - until tonight, when I updated to Safari 1.3.2 - and now I can't get the CoreAudio Manager to connect to Safari. I want to be able to hear sound from the internet through the monitors that I have connected to my 002, but ever since updating, Safari will not connect to the CoreAudio Manager. iTunes doesn't seem to be a problem, though.

Is this a version issue? I've set the system output to my 002 in both the Sound tab of the System Preferences and in the Audio MIDI setup. HELP! Frustrated!

Thanks.

Have you tried launching Core Audio before Safari? That works for me with some apps.

I had problems specifically with 10.3.9 and Digi's Core Audio. There may be some reference to it in the Knowledgebase here. I don't remember if it was just the 002R or with the Core Audio driver or the combo or what. I do remember I upgraded to Tiger real quick after that.

Any chance you can upgrade to 10.4.8 - or even downgrade back?

I'd rather not upgrage to 10.4.8 - I reckon it's not cheap, and, frankly, given the results when I simply upgraded to a newer version of Safari, I'm not anxious to do something so global as to upgrade OS's - I fear that I'd be spending weeks trying to return my computer to it's current behavior with all the different programs I use, etc. (In fact, last time I upgraded, from 10.2 to 10.3, I had to buy the 002. It's not really in the cards for me right now.)

So am I to believe that this is all the result of a new version of Safari? Is there anyway to revert back? I don't even know where on my harddrive to look for the install records. Help!

(PS - launching CoreAudio manager first didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Yes, there are known issues with 10.3.9 and the Core Audio driver, specifically with Quicktime. Safari probably installed certain components of QT that are incompatible with the Core Audio driver. Unfortunately, there's probably not a whole lot that can be done about it. You could try reinstalling QT 6.5.2 to see if it corrects the behavior, but most other users have reported only about a 50% success rate with that.

You could try trashing preferences, including com.digidesign.coreaudiomanager.plist and Digidesign Core Audio Manager.plist if you see them.

I'm running PTLE 6.4cs9, and Core Audio 6.9 successfully on 10.3.9 with my 001, but I haven't updated QT past 6.5.2 or Safari. The latter because I never use it. FireFox works fine for me.

Due to some recent experiments I think the trick to using CAD 6.9 successfully on 10.3.9 is to install CAD first, then PTLE. At least with 6.4 anyway.

If I had a 002 I would probably be using Tiger now though...........
