Default Removing, then replacing the preference file?

If I remove the pro tools pref files, then later move them back, will I have my prefs from those files back again? I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem I'm having getting my VSS3 plug-in to work (see my post - PLZ).

But if trashing my pref files doesn't solve this problem, I'd like to get my preferences back.

Does anyone know if that's possible?

Thanks

It should be as simple as moving them to another folder with some obscure name, and then moving them back(and deleting whatever replaced them while they were gone).
