I'm wondering if something like this would work with Pro Tools and shortcuts. I can see a number of good uses for those buttons....

Yes.

There’s a few ways you can integrate a Stream Deck. I use mine with Keyboard Maestro and create the macros myself. Otherwise, you can use Sound Flow which has a lot of macros preconfigured. The latter requires a subscription.
