Re: Pro Tools 9 with an Apogee Duet
I am using a ensemble with pt9 and maestro. It works flawlessly for low/no latency monitoring. Coming from an HD2 rig it took me a minute to figure it out, but once set it is great and Maestro doesn't even have to run in the background.
Here is my setup. quad core nehalem with ensemble. stereo mixing via a Big Knob. (sub any mixer though) Pro tools is set to output 1/2 Maestro sets inputs 1-8 to output to 3/4 3/4 runs into the big knob on a separate input that gets mixed with Ptools and is output to the headphone amp. Just mute the track you are recording in Ptools and you are good to go. The signal still goes into ptools, it is just muted from the main 1/2 output so you don't hear the latency. Since I can set the level with the big knob trim, I don;t even have to open maestro once it was initially setup. I am not sure how this would work with the duet since it is only 2 outs?? If anyone else knows how to set up a monitor mix with Maestro when the hardware only has 2 outs please chime in. |

Re: Pro Tools 9 with an Apogee Duet
Quite simple if you know how to do it:
The Mixer in Maestro for Duet only has controls for Inputs 1 and 2, From Software and To Hardware. First step, if you'd like to use Maestro for monitoring is to set the "To Hardware" drop-down menu to "Out L-R". Right now I'm recording Ac. Guitar with a mic going to XLR input 1, so I have Input 1's fader set to unity (0dB) in the Maestro mixer. "From Software" is the stereo mix coming out of Pro Tools and I set this level to get a good balance between the Acoustic Gtr and the rest of the mix for tracking. To avoid hearing the guitar signal coming back from Pro Tools with latency, I simply mute the Ac Gtr track in the PT mixer. And yes, it sound great - I am very much liking working with PT9 + Duet.
