So much for Nuendo and Pinnacle building the ultimate post DAW.

I can't see Yamaha doing much for Steinberg at the pro or post level. I think Cubase and Nuendo might be going the way of Opcode Vision with this deal.

I think that's what you're HOPING will happen

I personnally see it as a smart move by Yamaha. Why re-invent the wheel. Now they will have a direct hookup with a company that makes a killer DAW to interface with their hardware.

They Pioneered the technology of somehwat affordable moving fader, automated digital mixers like the DMP7.

Yamaha were the first company to release one of the most popular affordable digital consoles, the O2R. Also, they pioneerd affordable reverbs resulting in, again, one of the most popular reverbs the SPX90 and versions of it.

Let's not forget another must have keyboard the DX7.

So, don't try to minimize their contributions to digital audio, they were doing this when Digi was still a twinkle in it's founders eyes.

And they have the cash to do whatever they want.
They are being smart by not making the mistake Sony did when they released Betamax. they had no content.
Sony learnt from that, and when they were moving into CD and DVD production, they started buying record companies and movie studio's to guarantee content.

This, IMO, is what Yamaha is doing. Since Digi absolutely refuses to allow anyone to make controllers for their software other than midi contollers, Yamaha is assuring they will have guaranteed access to a very popular and excellent DAW, Nuendo. So they know that whatever they decide to develop, they will have access to a market they, and others, are trying to be denied access to.

Good move Digi. I guarantee you, Avids pockets aren't as deep as Yamaha's.

Dito!!

Yamaha put out the DM2000, which has many capabilities one of them being to pass sound through, and doesn't cost $60,000. It's only a matter of time before Yamaha or some other company can accomplish PT idea, do it better and cheaper.
