You can guess, but that does not always hold true.
For example typical TDM mixer has plugin delay of 350 samples (it builds up as you keep adding) and still people consider it blazing fast whereas 256 native buffer is sluggish as hell. Go figure. ... not to mention if you use both TDM and native plugins, you have both latencies to deal with. Nevertheless, because it is DSP it must be fast, right?
