Default "Unable to locate digidesign hardware..." using HD Pro Tools 6.4.1

Hi All, I'm new to this forum, but not at all new to digidesign. I'm having problems with the same "Unable to locate digidesign hardware.." I'm using Power Mac G5, CPU Speed-2Ghz, Memory-512MB, Bus Speed-1Ghz, Interface-192 Digital, Pro Tools version 6.4.1, Tascam TM-D1000.

Before joing this forum, Ive done extensive research regarding this problem, including the suggestings and solutions I found on this site (non worked for me).

Here's how it all went down: I was using Pro Tools 6.4.1 and loving it, never having any problems. Then I noticed that i could not burn audio on itunes. I went at itunes with a vengance and got it working real well, but guess what...after using the itunes to burn, I could not open Pro Tools 6.4.1 and got the ""Unable to locate digidesign hardware..". I've tried restart, uninstall, reinstall, permission repair, different Buffer speeds, installing my older version 6.2.2 (which now quits every time I press play or record), and much more, but I'll wait for any helping replies before going on.

Thanks for any HELP in advance.

Sincerely,
P

maybe you should look if Digidesign core Audio driver is already started,
thats just a guess , in this case PT should normally say "Hardware is
already in use" , since i have only 6.41+ mixplus (so far i know thats only
a Softwareversion for mixcards , not HD, -cards) i can only say that.
In this case , close the core-driver and PT should start.
Maybe you have the wrong PT-Software Version?

regards

Hi,
Thanks for responding.
I check for drivers in my "documentation" folder and only see "coreaudio read me" and "coreaudio...guide". However, I do have Core Audio Manager 6.9. and I've seen "hardware in use" sometimes while I've tried different solutions.

So, if I don't see anything that says "core-drivers", are you referring to "coreaudio read me and guide"?

Regarding the PT software version: I double and triple check the compartability which is correct according to digidesign.

Again thanks for respnding...I thought I would hear much more in this forum...Where is everyone??? They say "don't say things like HEEEEEELP", but when you are in business and stuff suddenly stop operating properly and you've tried for weeks, nothing else is left but to say HEEEEEELP!!

Thanks again in advance.

So far i see in the Comp-docs from Digidesign existed for
HD cards only a 6.4 PT Version but no 6.4.1 (that one seems
indeed only for mix-cards)
So I guess you choosed the wrong update ....
BTW the "Digidesign core Audio Manager" is inside the
Folder Applications>Digidesign .
You should also check the OS-Version (for my 6.4.1 for MIX-CARDS(!))
was the last compatible 10.3.9 , but only if i stay with Quicktime
at Version 6.5.2 (any higher version is not compatible).
Since you have a G5 , where mix-cards doesnt work ,
you seem to have indeed HD-cards.I would go back to
6.4 , or any higher HD-compatible Version.
You may need a PT reinstall.
Better check also if Quicktime is compatible.

regards

Which OS version are you on? 6.4.1 would be for Mix systems on Panther, so that doesn't sound like a correct version if you're on HD.

Installing the update may have caused a problem where Pro Tools would just bounce in the dock and that has a fix:

http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...0&itemid=28438

However, you're saying you get a message about unable to locate Digi HW - and that would mean the above situation wouldn't apply to you.

What happens if you run Digitest?

I would recommend a clean uninstall of both 6.2.2 and 6.4.1, then reinstall only 6.4.1 (or whichever version is compatible with your OS and Digi hardware).

1. Run the installer for the version of Pro Tools you're trying to uninstall - when you get to the Custom Install page, click on Custom Install and select 'Uninstall'. When you continue with the uninstall, it will give you the option for 'Clean' or 'Safe' - choose 'clean'.
2. In your Pro Tools Utilities folder you may have a Pro Tools Uninstaller - double click and follow on-screen instructions. Again, you'll be given the choice of clean or safe uninstalls.
3. On most Pro Tools install CD's or DVD's there will be an Uninstall utility - same steps as in #2.

Only as help for who have similar issue

i remember a friend with similar issue ,

caused by wrong installer version that was for Mix cards series ,

because backup copy cd , without info on the cd surface about cards type
( only pro tools 6,4 tdm backup )

The installer proceed without check type of hardware cards (mix or hd)

but after the installation ,

when launch pro tools , the loading stop and a message pop up , like :

no audio interface found.....(required for run pro tools)

after step by step test , the issue was fixed ,

unistalling the wrong pro tools version (as described in the above post)

and installing the right version of pro tools for hd cards ,

HD cards with OSX 10,3,4 and pro tools 6,4 .
