Os 8.6 availability

Following advice that OS8.1 was too old for some of our software (including ProTools 5.1), we bought OS9. It has proved to be really sluggish and generally causing problems, and we are advised to get OS8.6. This is no longer available here in the UK to buy and Apple advise to copy someone else’s disc(!)

We have located a colleague who has an OS8.6 system disc for a G4 - our understanding was that system discs were for all machines and the installer simply loaded the software appropriate for the particular machine.

However, this installer will not work at all in our 9600/350. Does anyone have any miracle solution to loading this G4 OS8.6 disc or suggestions as to where we might get OS8.6 (or, as I understand it, 8.5 + update)?

I have this and could make you a copy, but first I would make sure you have tried OS 9.0.4. It has been flawless on my 9600-350 Mixplus, 2 farms, Adaptec scsi, miro video, etc. If you still want it, email me.

Get the 8.5 disk and go to the Apple web site and download the upgrade to 8.6
It is the only way to go ...i think

Thanks Guys. We have tried 9.04 and it really doesn't seem that happy. Maybe should pesevere further but in the meantime think we should go for 8.6.

We are aware of progressing from 8.5 but the problem is even getting 8.5 in the UK!
