XP on a iMac Intel G5 running PTLE 7.1
All-
I'm running XP natively on an iMac Intel G5 (Windows partition configured through Apple's BootCamp Software.) XP works great. PTLE installs with no problems. When I load a session however, I keep getting H/W buffer errors. It tells me to increase and decrease it, which I do, but it will not play more than a few seconds worth of music. I have 1.5GB of memory and other programs fly. Has anyone experienced this problem or are running this type of setup. Also, any word on when PTLE 7.1.1 for the Intel Mac running Mac OS will be available, end of May is fast approaching. Thanks for any help, Darnell |

Don't know about PT under Windows on a Mac, but on "normal" Windows machines an additional harddrive for audio reduces the buffer errors. Did you try that?

Re: XP on a iMac Intel G5 running PTLE 7.1
I have the exact same setup and exact same problems..
The hardware buffer problem is a minor one though, just make it a habit to change the buffer setting back and forth once before you try to playback a newly open session.. I always do it like this Open the session Change the hardware buffer to 256 or so, depending on what it was already set to Change it back to 128 After that, the buffer errors are gone until I restart the computer or do something awful to protools Also, the funny thing is that it works much better with an usb2 device plugged into the computer when it is booted.. Nowadays my iPod is my "PTLE-performance-boost-dongle" edit: we ARE talking about intel here aren't we? the g5 is a ppc processor, the new one is called iMac coreduo, NOT G5.. It can be a bit confusing when people use G5 and intel in the same sentence. |
