Default MBOX clipping problem.

Hello all,
I recently purchased an Mbox from ebay and have run into a major problem. First a little background:
I'm running a 15" powerbook w/ a 1ghz processor and 512mb or ram. Now to the problem, when the mbox is plugged in the two peak buttons light up immediatly (even without having launched protools). When I plug the earphones into the earphone jack (in the front) all I hear is a constant clicking noise (which i've been told is clipping). Now I've tried reinstalling protools, trying different computers, and even using a different usb chord, but nothing is working. I should also note that it doesn't change even when a mic or line is plugged into the inputs. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Scott Arnold

i've adjusted all the knobs on the mbox and it doesn't affect the problem. The volume on the computer doesn't affect it either.

Stupid question, but...
Is the Mbox connected to the computer BEFORE you turn it on? (Or are you plugging it in while the computer is already booted up?)

Hi,

What version of Pro Tools came with the Mbox and what version of MacOS are you running? I would start by running the Mbox firmware updater for your version of MacOS. You can find them here:

http://www.digidesign.com/download/mbox/

If the firmware updater can't locate the Mbox you may have a hardware issue. You should contact tech support about getting the unit repaired. You may want to try a different USB cable as a test, did the Mbox including USB cable that were normally ship? Unless the cable has a problem the one we include would be the best one for you to use since most third party USB cables do not include a bulk filter (the cylindrical lump near one end of the cable) to help reduce interference, make sure that you are using the USB cable that ships with MBox once you determine that the cable is not the issue. If possible you should also try connecting your Mbox to different computer, this will help you determine if the problem is specific to your computer. You can find information about arranging for a repair here:

Thanks,

I followed those instructions, and it was able to locate the mbox and loaded the update. However, it still is not working. This is so frustrating. The brightness of the light however has dimmed.

Hi,

What version of Mac Os are you running? What version of Pro Tools LE are you running? How much RAM do you have. If you are on Panther OS you should download 6.4. Are you receiving any error messages or dialog boxes? Give us more information about your system, what's happening and maybe we can get you going.

Thanks,
