Default Plug In Update/Version app

Hey guys.

Ive been thinking a lot lately about how great it would be if we had an app that would track installed plug in versions and could notify when updates are available.

The same way that when iPhone apps are updated they just show up in the update tab.

I know Pro Tools expert and Avid themselves host a grid where we can look it up but how hard would it be to have an app that pulls the versions from ones plug in folder and then matches to either a centralized database or a specific manufacturer page.

I know it would take some coordination and manufacturers would be hesitant but if it was just a matter of placing new versions at a specific location for the app to pull from... it might work.

I don't think in the early stages it would be easy to get folks on board but if the concept gained momentum I think it could happen.

I look at this board every day, morning and night and sometime in-between. the number one trouble shooting step is plug in versions and yet there is no easy way.

I would be willing to pay a few bucks every year as a membership... like 25 bucks or something...

Just thinking out loud here...

I have absolutely no app programming skills or web site construction experience so its not really something I can do but Im willing to work with manufacturers as I do have some relationships there I can build on...

Anyway...

Thoughts??

Plugin Update hasn't updated their website in, 6-8 months. Is it still a going concern? I'd love it if it were.

Hell, I'd love it if plugin developers just put the Build/Version number in the download/installer file name, or somewhere evident on the GUI without guessing/digging.

i think it should be a LAW that all plugin developers post version numbers on their web site in plain view. Almost half of my plugins have no version number on the site and I had to download the plugin to find out what it was. I may start an online petition for this.

SO glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about Version Nos.
Makes life a pain.
