Great that it helped, not fun to reinstall everything again but maybe it will be the best thing you have done so far to get back to work

Keep us posted how it all works out.

Best of Luck

Didn't work for me.
But than again my problem is not disk allocation.
It is instability.

I, too, am seeing instability in 11.1.1 Native on a Win 7 machine that ran 11.0 great (Intel 6-Core 3.2 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, Mbox Pro 3rd Gen, FW via SIIG Card)

Now I'm seeing instantiating plug-ins crash PT and forcing me to reboot Windows. The first time was trying to put a mono instance of Sound Radix Auto-Align. I have confirmed in at least 3 different sessions that Auto-Align can crash PT (didn't happen in 11.0).

Tonight, instantiating Superior Drummer on a new instrument track crashed PT 11.1.1.

Something has made PT 11.1.1 very touchy. I think I will walk my copy back by uninstalling and reinstalling 11.0.1.

So glad I'm not alone here. But 11.0.1 was unstable for me as well, though I didn't try in on win 8.1 (only windows 7).
My problem is midi/autosave related. It seems whenever I stop an action (like record midi or adjust velocity) PT will hang while trying to autosave. This will crash 8-9/10 times.

Great that you have a way around this.

Yep I am going to keep flogging a dead horse for a while...

It could be that 11.1 introduced a fundamental bug, it could also be that the plugin you are using has a bug that luckily just did not trip up 11.0. Just one example--a plugin could write some data over the wrong memory location, maybe just one byte past where it as supposed to be writing, in 11.0 it luckily does not overwrite any important data structures, in 11.1 it might. And then that corrupted memory then or some time later causes Pro Tools to crash.

I just want folks to realized that what you are seeing does not necessarily mean that Pro Tools 11.1 in those cases "has a bug" (it certainly has a compatibility problem with this plugin). The first place to start with these issues as a customer is likely the plugin vendors, make sure they know you are seeing a bug, that did not happen in 11.0 and now does in 11.1 and how to reproduce it. If they can reproduce it it should be straightforward for the vendor to work out what eactly is causing it.

I certainly don't mean to imply the problem might not just be a bug in Pro Tools 11. I just wanted to point out that what you are seeing does not necessarily mean that it is.

Sending in Pro Tools 11 automatic crash reports to Avid also means that Avid developers should be able to tell what is going on with these crashes.
