Structure Full in Protools 10
Hi all,
I am a new user to Protools 10. I just installed it from the installation disks and have been playing around with the software awhile. One of the first things I noticed is that I have Structure Free under my Instrumental inserts and not regular Structure. Forgive me for being a newbie but I guess my first question that I can't figure out after googling the subject is: Does structure full come with protools 10? I thought it would but I have absolutely no clue what is exactly included with the Virtual Instrument installer. I find the whole process pretty confusing and don't know if its supposed to be there or not. Currently, I have Structure free with comes with about 60 sample instruments. I thought it was a mistake so I searched the DUC forum and found out that if you deleted preferences inside the Library folder then Structure will show up. This didn't work so I'm thinking I simply didn't actually get the software in the installation. Can anyone tell me what to do? Do I need to buy additional Structure software from Avid if I want to use this plug-in or did I miss something in the installation?? Thank you so much! |

Re: Structure Full in Protools 10
With any new software, best practice is to leave things alone until you know what works and what does not.
Structure Free is a slimmed-down version. The only problem arrives when you want to use the "Full" version, then you have to manually delete the "Free" version. The best way to get the "Full" version, at this point in time, is to trade in an "LE" version of Structure (there are three versions: "Free" "LE" and "Full") for the whole suite of five virtual instruments. It would be a good time to try to figure out the Avid web site. The suite used to cost much more, but with a trade-in, you can buy it for $199. You can buy a copy of LE on ebay for about $50, and then sacrifice its Ilok license to qualify for the trade-in. Avid has been known to yank "specials" from time to time, so there is no guarantee it will last. But the issue with Structure is slightly more complex. The "Free" version is a teaser to entice you into the RTAS based virtual instruments. There are many people who have posted threads about how great they sound, but the problem is that Pro Tools is still a 32 bit application, and RTAS virtual instruments eat up memory quickly. You might want to read up on Vienna Ensemble Pro if you want to create a complete virtual orchestra. The other variable is whether the Avid virtual instruments will be ported to AAX, as RTAS is supposed to evaporate when Pro Tools dissolves into a 64 bit application. Ironically, the virtual instruments would be most valuable at that point in time, and I have not heard of RTAS to AAX updates...

Re: Structure Full in Protools 10
I didn't get it, I have the same problem. I have pro tools 10 and have the structure free.
I did an online search and found out here http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...03?popup=true& that pro tools 10 comes with full structure, not just the free one, but I still can't get it. This is what I did (according to that page) go to my hard drive - users - (then theres only my user name or a folder named shared) if I click on my user name the folders "documents, desktop, apps, etc" appear, if I open the shared folder then I have another folder inside named library, then preferences and then 2 text files with names something like com.avid.device .... these are the files I deleted (just as the web page says) but nothing happened with the structure. I don't know if I deleted the wrong files or if Im not supposed to have the full structure. Thanks |

Re: Structure Full in Protools 10
I can see why you would think what you thought, but it is a case of wishful thinking...
What the heading is saying is: if you have already purchased and installed the "full version" of Structure, it will be overwritten by the "Free version" when you install PT10. The fix does not apply unless you had already purchased and installed the "Full" version.
