I don't use UAD so there may be those in the DUC better placed to give you advice.

Chasing the analogue sound, please elaborate and I'll be happy to help if I can.

Here's a site that will give you up to date currency info http://www.xe.com/ucc/

There's lot of plugs that help to create that kind of tape saturation/harmonic distortion.

I have UAD-2 and the Fatso and its one awesome processor, but takes some time to get the results. where as the plugs below are more instant and available in pro tools....

DUY valve and tape is great and i use it lots

McDSP Analog channel

Cranesong Phoenix

SPL Analogue code twin tube

Many of the new Waves plugins now have analogue modeling built in.

probably more i've forgotten

Can't beat that 80's tape hiss

there's no magic processors! skilled Equalization is the key to great sound mixes.

Chris

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding, an analogue sound is not a matter of eq, as the way that sound is created in the first place is completely different.

The only real way to get an analogue sound is to use analogue, but as Chris has pointed out there are a lot of emulators out there trying to replicate the effect.

On my last album we used HD and tracked through an analogue board, at the other end of the process a lot of mastering guys will use analogue outboard in the mastering process.

Part of what makes analogue so fondly regarded (although we all hated it at the time) was things like the inherent distortion of the circuits and the tape it all hit. The issues of bandwidth and crossover on the channels and the heads, a lot of this was reduced with the advent of transistors and more latterly digital, hence the desire to use tube pre amps et al.

I hope you don't think I'm p*ssing on your dream bud, but it would be wrong of me to point to a plug-in as a cure-all. You may want to think about running some of your mixes out to tape if you really want to go for broke.

In the meantime I'll think about a video and how, as Chris suggests, one can mix to get a warmer retro sound and recreate some of that stuff with the tools available.

Ah nostalgia, it ain't what it used to be.
