Default Help! MIDI acting up, synth programs sound weird..

Hi everyone

ok, this is the story, I've been doing MIDI recordings with no problems(drum beats only), but now, I saw myself in the following situation; I created an Instrument track, did all the right setup for MIDI and the AUX, I got midi signal, everything is fine, but I play the program from my triton LE and what?? the program sound totally different from what it really sounds like, now that's not only happening to that specific program but to all of them, if that wasn't enough of a surprise, the Arp is not working either?? what's going on?? I never had this problem before recording midi from my triton drum kits, but now that Im doing programs this happened? there's nothing wrong with my triton, If I play a program via the audio outs they sound perfect, the problem is when Im recording this programs via midi?? I know I can always just record via the audio outs of my synth but I want to do it via MIDI, why are the programs sounding different and why the arp won't work? the same thing happened when I did it with a midi track(not instrument track). Does anyone know what im talking about and why is this happening????

Not familiar with the Triton, but it really sounds like you've put it into a different mode than you're used to. Maybe there exists something called "Multi mode" or similar? A mode that sets the Triton up for multi-timbral usage, and therefore need to divide its onboard audio engine and FX between the channels?

I went into my triton's GM section and there's nothing like that, I just check that it was assign to GM and it was.

but here is the new mystery.... I got rid of my previous session and open a new one, I created a midi track as well as an Aux. Guess what? this time, after doing all the respective setup, the programs sound just like the way the are! no weird sounds or different sounds, and the Arp function worked just fine, I armed the midi track, had signal in it as well as in the Aux, everything was fine, so I recorded a midi performance, ok so far, now I press play and I can't hear anything, the midi performance is done, is there in the edit window but no sound?, and yes my triton is on of course, but nothing coming out in the Aux?? Man .. Im getting really frustrated with MIDI and Im a synths and keys guy so I gotta deal with midi, anyway......

As PT Lover has already stated, have you enabled either Performance mode or Multitimbral mode and turned the Local Off. Both of these options are in the Triton manual.

Secondly, have you connected the Audio Output of the Triton to the Audio Input on your Digidesign Hardware and is the AUX Input reflecting the Hardware Input source you just made?

A: not really, I haven't check this because that problem is now gone, I mean the programs sound the way they're supposed to, and the Arp and other functions are working properly.

Yeah, that's what is driving me nuts, as I said before, there's signal, level and everything, so that's why I don't get it???

Your description of your problem reminds me of when I first ran into the mysterious "default midi thru" feature that started in R7 ( i think). Anyway I would play my electronic drum kit and the sounds would come out of motif es or vise - versa. I could not figure out what was up until i luckily remembered reading about it on the DUC. I wound up setting my default midi thru to "none" and just using the record enable to get a signal thru PT. Could this possibly be your problem? This is a global setting and should not change when you laod a new session but if you have "First Selected Track" set as the default thru intrument it might work due to the track selector being on the correct track you want verus the wrong track when you opened the new session.
