Default I want a good drum library to use for PT 6.7

So I REALLY need to get some decent kits and drum samples into pro-tools. I have some of the drum kits on sampletankLE and Reason Adapted.... Are there any stand alone drum modules for RTAS? or should I upgrade Reason or Sampletank.... Suggestions? I just want to be able to open up some really good drum kits and percussion within protools to trigger via midi. I was wondering if anyone has some good advice as to which Plug ins would be good. Should I just buy GigaSampler?

Check out BFD.

24 bit drum kits. Runs as a Rewire/RTAS plugin or standalone. Can be triggered via Midi.
Super Cool!
I use it.

The other really popular one is Drumkit From Hell. I think the two newest ones have RTAS sample engines included, but can't confirm that as I've never used them. Superior seems to be getting a lot of buzz, though, and is comparable with BFD.

I use the older multi-format DFH and like it a lot.

Okay- Cool- i just checked that one out- it says it's rewire compatible so it will work as a RTAS right? Both are about $300.... so thats nice I was looking at Drumkit from Hell Superior.

So if I was going to buy this- and I was using a laptop- and a Firewire drive- would it work if I installed it on the firewire drive or would that be too much bandwidth for the firewire port?

I have DFH Superior and from what I can tell, the main difference between DFH and BFD is that DFH is your basic raw, unprocessed drum sounds. Whereas BFD is already somewhat pre-produced. So if you're looking for ready to go sounds, then BFD is probably the way to go. But, if you're looking for total control of the drum sound, as well as mic bleeding, then go with DFH Superior. I got it thru musiciansfriend for $200. But keep in mind, that you'll have to know how to produce drum sounds if you really want to make DFH work for you. Meaning you really have to get into the eq-ing, compressing, reverb, etc. But for that reason, I really like it. Hope that helps.

And Another would be the Reason Drumkit
It is in the same category as BFD and DFH and alot cheaper(if you have Reason already that is). I use BFD on my laptop thru a firewire drive. Works good. Will be checking out DFH superior and Reason Drumkit soon.

I've found the Reason Drumkit to be ok. Good for your pop/rock type stuff. Stuff where you're not too concerned with it sounding real, or being really dynamic. But it's not bad. And for the price, you get the rest of the synth sounds too with Reason. Which is very very cool. Can't imagine buying another keyboard anytime soon.

Dude, I really dig this thing a buddy of mine told me about: Drums on Demand He actually gave me his small set (Vol 1 through 3) when he sold me his MBox because he's buying the full collection.

It's all live drums, really easy to use. I'm a freaking noob and I had it down really quick. I don't know what price range you're looking at but about $160 will keep you plenty full for awhile. They have a pretty impressive testimonial page too. http://www.drumsondemand.com/reviews.htm. Just an option...

Absolutely not. BFD is completely unprocessed, apart from the PZM channel pair. The individual direct channels, overheads, and regular ambient mics are all unprocessed, and BFD has similar bleed capabilities to DFH Superior. That said, the two sound very different - DFHS was recorded in a very dry room, whereas the BFD room is much more live-sounding.

Perhaps you're thinking of the original Drumkit From Hell, or the Drumkít From Hell 2 library with the Kompakt player... both of those libraries are processed.

Incidentally, the BFD engine now imports content from DFH Superior (and also the excellent Scarbee SID library), so if you have more than one, you can mix and match.
