Default Best PC For Digi 001 - Old School

Here's my situation: I've been given the opportunity to record an album in a well-known studio this Fall. I'm required to record some demoes of songs that I plan to put on the album. I already have a Digi 001 Factory with Pro Tools LE 5.1.1. I do not see any reason in purchasing a Digi 002 or better since these will just be demoes. I'm also short on time.

What I need is a computer for the 001. I was thinking I could nab a cheap PC on eBay. I used to use a Dell Dimension T700r which worked well enough with the 001...these are selling for $30 on eBay now. I don't think it would hurt to have something a little better than that now...but I don't care to spend very much either on a desktop until the Core 2 Duo chips are released...and, since I don't have time to wait for that since I need to send these demoes ASAP...I was thinking of purchasing a relative inexpensive, used (since the Digi 001 and LE 5.1.1 are fairly old) computer that would be able to handle the Digi 001/LE no problem. What's the standard on here as far as that goes...by that I mean...is there any PC that's ideal for the 001 that can be had for less than $1k...or even less than $500? Recommendations?

Best,

ckboddic

P.S. I know there is a sticky that discusses the best desktops for PTLE...since I'll be using a Digi 001...I'm looking for something that would have been like top of the line in 2003 or so that would work well with my setup.

"The Original Under $600.00 System" listed in the Best Desktops for LE sticky thread should work fine with the 001. I would hazard to guess that at least 30% (if not, more) of the people using that system are using it with the 001.

agree with the above. i was still using mine up until last week.
i just installed a new quad in my studio.
i am keeping the amd, asus, 001 system as a back up.
it never let me down in 4 years. it probably would
go for at least 4 more, but i was too tempted by the
power of the quad!!!!!!!!! see if you can find a used
box with this motherboard processor combo. you will not
be disapointed.

Any particular brand models that already contain ASUS/AMD...or is this something I'm going to have to build myself? Also, see plenty on "barebones" type computers when I search titles and descriptions on eBay for "AMD" and "ASUS". Are the majority of these good or bad?

Thanks for all the replies so far!

This isn't so much a recommendation on the computer, but I do STRONGLY urge you to spend $35 on the downloadable LE6.4 update. Whatever machine you get will be able to be set up on XP instead of Win98 and you will have a workable click. It is very much worth the $35 (IMHO).
