The Test Results are In!!!
Ok so I spent my entire afternoon testing and this is what I got:
Mac Pro Dual Quad 2.8GHZ early 2008 model 2 GB RAM OSX 10.5.1 Leopard PTLE 7.4 CS3 GLYPH GT050Q 250GB FireWire external HD DIGI 002R Rockit 5 Studio Monitors All power saving, Spotlight, Time Machine, BlueTooth turned off and I rebooted the system as well. Plugins are up to date versions: Amplitube Ampeg SVT IK Multimedia Classik Studio Reverb Music Production Toolkit v1.0 Intel Mac Version Maxim DI-FI MP3 Option Wave Arts Power Suite 5.3 T-Racks Ready?? Here We Go!!! Session is at 24bit/ 44.1/ AIFF 5 minute tone generated 48 Mono Audio Tracks 14 Aux Tracks 310 D-Verbs used Playback Buffer setting at 512MB Level 2 DAE RTAS Processors at 8 cores at 99% Cache Size= Large By the time I added the 14th Aux track with the 5 extra D-Verbs the screen refresh rate was getting really slow and choppy, but it maintained the constant 5 minute tone without breaking up. Everything was done in real-time with no printing to track whatsoever. I was in shock when the system told me to back down the buffer playback from 1024MB to 512MB. I have to say I'm very impressed with this, even though I have only 2GB of RAM!! Now I need 4GB more of RAM and a 750GB Seagate internal SAS or SATA drive and I'll be super rocking!! Hope this helps guys!!

Re: The Test Results are In!!!
Wow...thats great...I too have a Macpro 2.66/w 5GB ram. I totally ditched my old Lacie drive for an extra internal sata 320 drive for audio. I just used the firewire drive for backup now.
I haven't went to the extent of installing Leopard. So I'm using Tiger 10.4.10 with PTLE 7.4 cs2 and 002 rack. Things are smooth. I tried the Leopard thing awhile back with no luck, guess I'll just sit and wait, and try put to use this $100 dollar Leopard coaster:) I don't have the MP toolkit, don't have any need for 48 tracks...My sessions are only totalling bout 15 or more tracks. I can squeeze alot out of those, especially with a UAD Express card. Can't live without my LA-2A plugs. But anyway, good to hear you have great results. I think I'll finish up these few sessions I have going, and for kicks. I'll try the Leopard thing, but I think one of my plugins are holding me back, we'll see.... Good going, and good luck... |

Re: The Test Results are In!!!
Cool, i'd be interested in your results. As I said earlier, I tried Leopard but didnt have the best of luck. That was with 10.5 and PTLE 7.4 with no CS releases. So now I'm thinking I'll probably take the plunge and try again. I'm bored tonight. Now that there is 10.5.1, and 7.4CS3, I may get a little further. I'm beginning to think it was my UAD card causing the problems, but the software there too, is now updated. Now if only Digi would get on board with the whole Leopard thing quickly. If it doesnt work, I'll make Leopard work.
