Ableton Live 9 Suite and Avid Fast Track Duo distorted sound
When I use Fast Track Duo as Audio Streaming Input Output device in Ableton Live 9 Suite the sound it produce is heavily distorted. Initially everything was fine. Sometimes when I tweak audio preferences and then set the back to initial state the sound gets fine again, but after I restart Ableton it gets distorted again. If I export a clip and then play it with any audio player it sounds well but the same clip is not fine in Ableton. I believe that my settings in Ableton are correct. Here they are:
I tried this also, but it introduces unacceptable much latency I installed the latest drivers from avid.com/drivers after I plugged for first time Fast Track Duo in my PC it asked me to update its firmware, so I let it do it. Can you help me please? How can I test for sure that the problem is not in Fast Track Duo but in Ableton? Last edited by bsidetape; 09-06-2013 at 01:03 PM. |

Re: Ableton Live 9 Suite and Avid Fast Track Duo distorted sound
I think I found the problem. According to the official site of Ableton I don't have enough RAM for using the 64bit version. My PC had only 2 GB, but it needs more than 4GB:
"We recommend using the 32-bit version of Live for most use cases. The 64-bit version should be used when experiencing out of memory crashes on systems which have more than 4GB RAM installed." You can read the article here. I just upgraded my PC to 4GB of RAM. So far, everything works fine even on the highest settings of Avid Fast Track. If I encounter any troubles in future I'll write here. Cheers |

Re: Ableton Live 9 Suite and Avid Fast Track Duo distorted sound
I think I finally resolved my issue. I have plugged Sound Interface's USB to the docking station of my laptop instead to plug it directly to laptop's usb ports. I believe that it introduce more hardware processing of signals transmitting in the usb's layer communication, i.e one extra buffer. This could introduce noise in the sound, like cracks which was my issue.

It could also be that the laptop USB port does not output enough bus power for the FT. Hopefully this works for you, but if you have to record while mobile, try getting a powered USB hub.
