Default problem with -6085. macbook pro RAM1.0 with pro tools7.3.1

So, I got my MBOX2 pro factory w/ pro tools LE last night...I installed everything, and I was playing with it for awhile and the -6085 shows up. It showed up randomly when playing/recording, which bothered me so I researched and follow every instruction (I followed general troubleshooting instruction - reparing on disk utility, uninstall and re-installing), I did everything I could possibly do.

after this long process I opened pro tools, hoping it was fixed, or at least got better, and everytime I hit play button, -6085 shows up. I only had one track, and there was no plug-ins or any rewired sequencers. So after all of those troubleshooting process, the situation actually got WORSE......

I checked playback panel and changed CPU usage and buffer size and everything. If anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated.

PS - does it matter which firewire input you connect into? my macbook pro only has one input for firewire, and I saw two inputs for firewire on my mbox2 - i've plugged in both of them but still no luck...

You most likely need to install the cs2 update to Pro Tools - this is assuming you're using an Mbox 2 Pro, which I'm guessing you are. That update fixes a specific problem with 6085 errors on Intel Macs.

It's a Firewire bus error. How exactly do you have your Firewire chain set up?

My MacBook Pro has two Firewire ports - one Firewire 400 and one Firewire 800. The correct method is to use the Firewire 400 port, which the MBox 2 pro is. You cannot use Firewire 800 drives for audio, it will cause this error.

What are you using for an external hard drive?

peace

So you are using your internal drive to record audio? That's not ideal although I would think it should handle one track.

Does the MBox run OK with a virtual instrument? Try just the Click for starters. Does it work OK with that?

You should be able to run with the Firewire cable plugged into either of the ports in the back of the MBox2 Pro. It is an MBox 2 Pro - right?

And you have upgraded to 7.3.1cs2?

You will need to get an external Firewire drive to do any serious audio recording. Make sure you get one with the Oxford 911 chipset. That is recommended by Digidesign.

Another thing you can try is unplugging the MBox after you boot the computer and then plugging it in to the Firewire port.

peace

so if i get external hard drive/firewire drive will that fix a problem? or at least make it better?

I added clicks and pressed play but it still gives me same problem...

also, what confuses me more is that if firewire is the problem, why did it work when i first ran through???? this is very confusing..

i am looking for firewire 400 products..i've been searching for avid mediadrive rs80 but i can't find ones for sale - not even in digidesign store. only thing they got is rs73

Many users here like OWC, Gylph and G-Tech. You can't go wrong with those guys.

What version OS are you using?

Have you tried a different FW cable?
