Default installing protools ver. 6 or 7 on old Mac OS 10.6.8

I just picked up a Digirack 002 firewire, and need to connect with an older model of Mac desktop with OS 10.6.8 ( which I know is ancient) but I have $$ issues to constantly upgrade hard drive and need an older version of Protools or LE to install. Any suggestions?

Hi, welcome to the community.

As mentioned, the computer needs to be even older than you think. What version auth code you have?

An old 002 and an old version of Pro Tools may be a lot more hassle than you expect. Unless you are experienced with these old systems and need one for compatibility or other reasons I expect you are better off working with a recent DAW release and a modern interface with good current OS compatibility.

You can pick up modern interfaces starting at relatively low cost, like a Focusrite 2i2 starting around $170. That will run on all OS X/macOS versions with it's USB class compliant compatibility, while a 002 requires separate drivers with more recent versions of Pro Tools (9 and later?). So if using those you also have to pay attention to this driver compatibility table: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...02-003-Drivers (not officially supported may not mean does not run, but this is an end of life product).

There are many great DAWs that cost less than Pro Tools including Reaper, Ableton Live Lite, Logic Pro, and Garageband (yes seriously).

I'm not sure I understand the disk cost comment at all. Pay attention to the minimum systems requirements, if you are running hard drives (not SSD) then Pro Tools should have a dedicated audio drive, so you do have that cost. Hopefully you Mac has a nice fast SSD and you can use that for the audio and VI samples and boot/system drive. Other DAWs have less demanding disk requirements.

I'm in a similar situation trying to resurrect and old HD system and PT 7 is not likely to work on OS 10.6.8. I have 10.5(leopard) and PT 8 is what works with that OS. Check that compatibility list that EGS gave a link to. I suspect that OS will need PT 8 or 9 at least
