Default to Lion or NOT to Lion

i don't really get it - what's the point of releasing "beta" version fro lion..

does it or does it not work for lion

do we really need this step from " not working" to " on your own risk"..?!

With user feedback it may expedite the process of arriving at a stable version. It is obviously not mandatory.

It's also for users buying new computers that come with Lion. You can't roll back to 10.6.

I'm staying at 10.6.8 and 9.0.3.

My refurb iMac came with Lion, successfully went back to SL and got everything installed and working. I used system 9.1 for a long time because of stability on my old G4, also staying a 10.6.8 and 9.0.3 for the time being.

Warning. Your refurb iMac was probably an older version of the firmware that had SL on the computer originally and was upgraded to Lion. In that case, you can re-load SL.

If the computer was build for Lion and never had SL on it, you cannot downgrade to SL.

Exactly, thanks. That is why I got the refurb, as they told me it would ship with SL. They told me that the machine could go back because it originally shipped with SL

Historically, there have been many cases of new Macs coming with a new OS, that COULD be downgraded successfully to an older OS. You won't know until you try. But in any case, if you install 10.6, update it all the way to 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 before trying to run any very recently released software.

My apologies if this has been covered in another thread, but it seems like a good place to ask. I need to upgrade my computer. If I get a new Mac, with Lion, can I partition and load SL on the new partition?
Thanks.

It is the first time that Avid reacts that fast. Last time they need 9 months. I am very happy about this and have an adventurous touch. If you are too anxious and have tactile projects then better wait. Avid is smart to release that beta to get more feedbacks from the community on http://protools.ideascale.com/ .This will help to get a new approved version more quickly. In my case only one feature does not work. The rest is fine.
