Default Digi could learn a couple of things from Steinberg...

i've been toying about with cubase SX lately and there are a couple of features that i found to be extremely useful. it would be nice to see them in a future version of PT.

1) you can switch between tracks using the arrow keys. when you switch to a different track, it automatically record enables (you can turn that off in preferences). then if you hit Ctrl+DownArrow it will minimize all the tracks vertically except for the one you have selected, which gets enlarged to a pre-determined height. very cool & productive.

2) each track has a button to enable monitoring. the default setting is off - you can't hear what you're recording. this is awesome. they're assuming you're using a mixer to get rid of latency. this is very smart. i'm tired of muting and unmuting tracks in PT when i want to record stuff. the end result is that you don't need to mute the track when you record and when you're done recording you don't need to unmute the track to hear what you just recorded. just hit play.

that's about it. the other cool features (rewire/virtual instruments) are coming soon to PT, and SX can't touch PT for either mixing or editing... but there's always room for improvement!

While you're at it...

A minimum of 24 channels of simultaneous I/O. Most of Digi's competitors have the ability to transfer 24 ch of ADAT optical format simultaneously. C'mon, it's 2003, not 1995.

W/C in/out.

How about right-clicking on the video/movie window so that it fills the entire screen - Cubase can do it, I don't think Pro Tools can.

Good ones da BaSsTaRd! And how cool is VST system link. Being able to use the power of other computers for more plug ins and tracks etc. But then we are getting into TDM territory for a hellava lot cheaper. They also need a streamlined networking feature. I network my le systems together to increase our work flow and the things we have to do to make it happen are a real pain. Hopefully Digis' purchase of Rocket Network will solve all this but probably on the Mac HD systems first and then le 3 years later.
