Default Deleting unused regions, but the audio files still are in the session\'s folder.......

Do you know what I mean..I go into the session and SELECT UNUSED REGIONS > CLEAR SELECTED> DELETE FILES and so I close the session....When I go into the audio files folder of that session I still see all the old takes (or at least most of them) I usually have to reopen the session and put an exclamation point next to all the used regions, then close the session and drag out all the files w/ no exclamation point...This takes forever and in case you're wondering why it matters to me it's because it takes forever to stuff 80something files rather than 20......

Any help appreciated...

This might be more a Digi question, but I suppose it's possible that when you delete regions (and not the files), PTLE leaves the entire file there that's associated with that region - it won't just delete "part" of the file that contains the unused region.

If you do a "consolidate regions" on a track-by-track basis, then you'll end up with a single region and file per track and you can then get rid of most everything else.

If you cut sth from file and then deleted everything, file was removed but not erased, because regions from it were used by that session. Then if you remove those regions, file does not belong to that session and therefore cannot be removed. You can remove everything except whole files at first, or, better, add all soundfiles from audio files folder and _then_ delete everything. Works.
Przemek.
PS - the second idea is not mine

Trash Man,
-Enable Show Full Pathnames from the Audio Regions menu and take note of all your audio files/regions directory location on your drive(s).

-Perform a consolation of your audio with the Select Unused Regions>Clear Selected>Delete (and not Remove which will only remove the data from the session and not from the drive), command sequence.

-Compare the filenames and locations of the audio left in the session with the audiofiles in the Finder. Are any of the files that were Deleted from the session (not Removed) and still left on your drive(s)?

Digi,

Will 5.1 have any additional features for file/region cleanup ?

What I want to do most of the time (and what I think most people want to do most of the time) is to delete all regions and files that are not being used in the session (i.e. delete all unused takes). No need for individual prompts, no need to remove files that have regions in use... just kill everything that isn't in a playlist.

Currently you have to select all unused regions, then select "delete," then choose "Yes" for every region that can be removed, and "No" for every region that cannot be removed. Wouldn't it be great to get that functionality without all the prompts and (frequent) confusion ? Digi ?

Thanks,
James

If you "option-click" the first "OK" dialog box. then you will bypass the idiotic confimation on each file.

AND..BY THE WAY..
why doesnt pro tools name the sessions audio files after the session name? ie.. " Stairway to heaven's audio files", "Cheezy ballad's audio files"..etc...

Chompers,
The Audio Filenames are generated based on the name of the track (or current enabled playlist).

jnash,
No, Pro Tools 5.1 does not include any additional region/file management commands in the Audio Regions List menu.
