Standalone CoreAudio Driver for Tiger has issues
Using Standalone driver version 7.0 on OSX 10.4.5 with 002r, iMAC G5 rev. A. Pro Tools is not installed. I'm using the 002r as a generic audio interface for iTunes, GarageBand, etc.
Two issues: 1) Shrill high pitched noise after playing iTunes for several hours continuously. Happens for no apparent reason. Killing and resetting the CoreAudio driver fixes it. I've had this problem with virtually every version of the CoreAudio driver. 2) CoreAudio driver will not connect to 002r after coming out of sleep. When the driver is in this mode, GarageBand throws error 25974, if that helps. This one is also random as it does connect most of the time. When this error occurs, the driver appears to get into a state of confusion where it refuses to let anything talk to the 002r. Power cycling the 002r and restarting the driver have no effect. This fault requires a full OSX reboot to fix. Extremely irritating. Any ideas? |

Your system needs to be set-up correctly, point being... "sleep-mode" is not a option. Set your system up step by step, as Digi gives guidence. Software is not perfect and dose have glicthes abound, but you have to help limit those by setting your computer up correct out of the gate. I appreciate your reply but for Digi's driver not to be able to recover from sleep mode is ridiculous. Sleeping your computer is a very normal function. Every other single piece of software and every other driver I have on my system comes out of sleep mode fine. Just so that I'm very clear, restarting the CoreAudio driver *usually* restores communications with the 002r after coming out of sleep mode. When a restart does not work, the driver throws the error code 25974. This is a very specific error mode with a very specific error code and something Digi should be able to address. Let me put it this way...you've come out of sleep mode, you've recycled power on the 002r and then completely killed your Core Audio driver and restarted it again. There is nothing connected to your CoreAudio driver. No iTunes, No Garageband, nothing. Still the CoreAudio driver can't connect to the 002r. This tells me it still has a "memory" of an application connected to it before the computer was put to sleep. |

I don't recall a time when PT DID support sleep mode. It's always one of the first things you turn off on a new Mac when you use it with audio cards.
M-Audio also recommends that the sleep function be turned off, so it's not just Digi drivers.

I'm not a newbie to the 002r, to OSX and audio recording in general and I'm not asking for a miracle here. I'm asking for a *very* reasonable standard of quality a general purpose audio driver such as Digi's should be able to provide. I'm not doing anything exotic with my system, yet I'm constantly having to work around the shortcomings in this standalone CoreAudio driver. It's getting rather frustrating. |

Re: Standalone CoreAudio Driver for Tiger has issu
There are a lot of little issues that bewcome very big (ANNOYING) with CoreAudio even 7.1, I have CoreAudio prevent PT from launching, it should actually turn itself off when PT is launched it it was intelligent, but it's a dumb application. Mine doensn't always launch when it's supposed to, will fail to quit and will not respond to force quit and will make other applications crazy. My old 6.9 would make iMovie crazy upon launch. I should consider myself lucky I guess, no hipitch sound or anything of the sort (hmm maybe its there and I cant hear it anymore) but you are absolutely right, the application leaves a lot to be desired
