Default Recycle...

I've become interested in the Propellerheads Recycle software and was wondering if anyone could give me reasons why I should buy it (or not) and give details on its compatibility with Pro Tools (001 system using Windows XP).

IMO, a far more useful piece of kit to use which does the same thing, and a lot more is Ableton Live. Currently at version 4 but you dont really need that if all you want to do is loop basic stuff. You could quite happily pick up version 2 or 3 which is a lot cheaper than 4. (The latest version of Ableton Live has many features that you may not need (Midi etc). In saying that AB4 is fantastic

I suppose recycle is good if you want to make rex files. Great for importing in to Reason's rex D rex player, so if you use that it may be worth going for. But I find recycle to be rather old hat now, and its a lot slower and less fun to use than something like ableton live + AB live is rewire compatible so you can use it directly within protools. I dont think recycle is rewire compatible but I could be wrong.

Theres a version of Ableton Live (Lite) that is practically given away free. It has full functionality but limited to 6 tracks.

Really all I need is a tool to be able to stretch and/or pitch shift samples easily, efficiently, accurately and without any distortion.

How much are you willing to spend? Serato Pitch N Time is the industry standard for time stretch, and it's about $500. Great program, I've used it.

That's the thing, Recycle can be bought for £100 (about $150). I don't have a lot to spend. Do you know if there are any compatibility issues between Pro Tools and Recycle?

i love using recycle and have began to use it more than ableton because of other features. it is kinda usless though if you do not have reason. some of the functions of recycle cannot be obtained w/o the full version of reason with the dr. rex. the ability too take one drum loop and do anything with and cut it up and make all new drum parts is really cool. the transient shaper and effects in recycle are really cool. you can also open up any dr rex file previously made and edit it and change settings on it which is also useful. i have also begun using on pads and such to to create really cool stuttering effects cutting it up into 16 notes and such. a lot of that stuff ableton cannot do. the downfall is that it can be kinda slow in the heat of inspiration pulling it in the program, cutting it up, effects, then saving, closing, opening host and importing the rex file in. my opinion well worth it though. a lot of time if i am not feeling to creative i just start slicing up different kinds of loops and saving them just to have them when i am feeling like writing. hope that helps......

Default cycle

ReCycle and Live are 2 different beasts.
In your case I'd say get Recycle first and get Live down the line.
Nevertheless, I have a feeling that PT along with many others will start integrating elastic audio into their apps soon.
