(Sorry, posted this on the wrong forum first:)
We're about to receive our first project recorded with a Harddisk-recorder (Cantar-X, to be specific). The recordings will be up to six tracks 24/48; for editing, there will be a separate mixdown to stereo 16/48. Editing will be done on AVID (not known which one). They'll shoot at 25 fps, - so we'll have to pitch dialogue for cinema release -, but at least there shouldn't be any sync issues (knocking on wood). Obviously, we'll have to postconform in order to use the original files rather than the mixdown stereo 16/48 files which AVID would export as OMF. Does anybody have good/bad experiences with this kind of workflow, and what tools would you recommend? Any info much appreciated! Cheers Florian |

****please*** stop cross-posting every time you write something. I posted a reply to the other section. This clutters up the threads and is very annoying to read. thanks.
frank.

Frank,
Really sorry about cross-posting. One wrong click. I even mailed the DUC to remove the post in 'Tips&Techniques' Well, they're about to start shooting, and nothing's been done wrong yet. The recordist did mention naming issues, so he's obviously aware of trouble potential. I have never touched Cantar, but generally would expect naming to be important with any multitrack files. He seems to have a choice of interleaved/multiple mono BWF to send to post. The editing room is not yet decided, so I don't know the editing system. We are on OsX, PT6.7. Somewhere in the basement we still have an old mix card, and a hibernating postconform; so if all else fails, I should be able to use this for conforming in OS9 (don't know about the 24bit files in Mix though). But obviously I'd prefer a more contemporary solution. I would much appreciate your advice (once the fury over cross-posting has calmed down..) Cheers Florian |

Send me an address and I´ll mail it to you. Frank.
