Default DIGI 002 into ExtFireWr., Ext FireWr. to Intel Mac

I'll skip how it came to pass that I had this set up this way. DIGI 002 into an external firewire drive, that external firewire drive into a Macbook Pro (Intel) 15" 2.16Ghz 1G ram. I did'nt think this would work in any way. (Mac - Frwr - Digi)
I opened an existing PT session from the firewire. I could play the session and listen. I set up 5 tracks and did a few, short(!) live takes on the 5 tracks. I saw the wave forms in the tracks as we recorded. I could make edits, delete, re-record etc. Upon finishing, I saved and closed the session. I hooked the firewire to another computer, an old G4 tower(Blue). I copied the nights session folder onto the G4. I opened the session on the G4. Message 'says' there are 10 audio files missing. Ten is the total so all the files are missing. Is this something I can take care of or was the DIGI going first into the firewire and then into the Macbook where the trouble occurred? Thanks.

Your I/O setup has nothing to do with where your tracks end up. It sounds like it saved the wav files to somewhere other than the folder you thought you were working in. Go back to the macbook pro and open protools and select save a copy. That should put all the files (no matter where they are) into a single folder.

Look in the folder you copied. Are the ten files there, in an "Audio Files" folder?

My experience has been that when you use the OS to copy a session rather than PT, when you open the copy you will need to relink to the audio files-- probably only once. Not a big deal, but I know it's disconcerting when you get the error message.

By the way, you had it hooked up the way it's supposed to be. Digi has a specific recommendation that "the 002 must be the last device in the chain".

Hi!
They probably are not missing, but rather the "link" to them from the session file is "broken."

When you open the session, are you presented with a Missing Files warning? Did you leave the default option to "Automatically find and relink" checked? If yes, reopen the session, and this time choose to manually find and relink. This will open a window/browser for doing just that. Navigate to where you moved the session to on that G4, and then to the subfolder with the audio files, and then manually select and relink each file. Often, with a smaller session, this is the easiest way to accomplish this. Large->Huge sessions are a different story

Alternatively, you could hook up the Firewire drive, open the session FROM that, and then "Save Copy In." Or, long way around, create a new session, and Import the session from the Firewire drive into it, and then save (be sure "Copy Audio Files On Import" is checked in Prefs, of course

I get it. I used OS by dragging the folder to the firewire. So I will try to copy session from PT from now on. Gracias.
