Default Noisy audio import results

When I drop-and-drag acidized wav files onto a track from the workspace, rather than through he "import audio" function, the files get noisy, taking on static-lick ticks? Is there a known problem with m-powered's (new) suggested method of auditioning and copying files into pro tools?

Matt
