Mogami cable question
I'm ready to order Mogami cable for all my wiring. An 8 channel snake to connect the live and control rooms, as far as microphone cable (also used for rack connections, active monitors etc) which cable should I get? Mogami 2549 (Neglex Balanced Mic Cable ) or Mogami 2534 (Neglex Quad Mic Cable )

NOT the quad! hat's primarily for live applications where induced noise is a problem. As with the Canary quad, it has higher inductance, which is not a good thing in the studio.

IMHO induced noise in microphone cable is ALWAYS a problem. All cable choices involve tradeoffs. The Canare Star Quad L4E4 multi-cable (for permanent installation only), unlike its Mogami counterpart, has 100% foil shielding. This is probably why it also has higher capacitance which, on longer cable runs, can cause some attenuation at high frequencies. We use the L4E4 in the troughs and the Mogami Star Quad (flexible braided shield) from the mic panels to the mics. I can tell you that in our application, with 30 - 40 open mics on medium sized scoring sessions, we are happy to err on the side of noise rejection. You should use whichever cable is appropriate for your purposes. All cable manufacturers publish detailed specs that can be analyzed in terms of your application and you may feel that some sound better than others. There are many opinions on this subject, but I can tell you that some very critical listeners do like the sound of the Canare. I don't recommend Star Quad for line level signals. I use Canare MR202, once again with 100% foil shielding, from patch bay to panel or fixed installation. All harnesses use Mogami with braided shield.
