download of Pro tools 8 LE?

Hi,

I had been running pro tools 8 LE on my 2007 macbook, with a 3rd gen mbox mini. I have just bought a new 21.5 inch iMac, but it doesn't have a cd driver so I can't re-install Pro tools. I have installed the driver and the mbox works, now I just need to install the programme. Is there somewhere I can download it from online? I can only find updates online, which require a previously installed version. I still have the serial, authorisation code, etc.

Protools 8 won't work with a new Imac, since it has Mountain Lion. You'll need to be on at least Protools 10.

For CD stuff in general, you should get an aftermarket cd/dvd drive.

thanks for the reply. I had looked about the forum and thought a few people had it working with Mountain Lion; maybe it was just the mbox that worked with other programmes. Has Avid confirmed that it's never going to be compatible? That's brutal.

Pro Tools 8 might work on your Mac. You can read posts here, as you have apparently, about how others have managed to get this working.

You need a DVD drive, you can try downloading the 8.0.3 installer from Avid's web site but that wants to see a DVD install disc in a drive. Easiest path there is to go buy an external USB DVD drive. I would just buy the one Apple offers.

Not supported by Avid means not supported, not known not to work. But not supported also means Avid is not going to waste their time testing against new OS releases and new hardware and answering questions like you are asking.

The other option is just upgrade to Pro Tools 10/11, which I would do in a heartbeat for all the improved capabilities.

Thanks for your help everyone! I'll be upgrading as soon as I can afford it, but just wanted LE 8 running in the meantime. I'll probably just buy a dvd drive as I will no doubt have other stuff I'll need it for.
