Default Los Angeles Rail Yard for field recording

hey guys.. been here for 15 years but am clueless as to where to locate a working rail yard to grab some ambiance with my field recorder. Anyone have any ideas? Looked on google maps and was thinking of heading down to San Pedro/Long Beach near the ports. Any specific location info is welcomed!

cheers!

Put 90013 into google maps and look where 4th street meets the L.A. river. Drive around that area on the side streets and you can find a way into the rail yard, or maybe record from the 4th street bridge.
Also East Washington Blvd near the 710 freeway is a good area, and also north main street near the Brewery.

Rail traffic might be slow over the holiday.

Have you thought of contacting someone at Union Sation? There's also one in San bernardino... 1535 West 4th St. 94210... It's about a hour or so outside of LA proper (10 to the 215 to Viaduct), but it's huge, and very much in use!

Hope this helps,

Nathan
